Tread carefully

Article Abstract:

A range of car tyres suitable for supermini and small family cars were tested for performance on dry and wet conditions, snow and ice, comfort and rolling resistance. The Continental Eco Contact EP, at between 32-41 pounds sterling, gave the best performance. Dunlop SP 10 3e, at between 35-40 pounds, was more comfortable but did not perform as well in snowy conditions. The Michelin Energy XT 1 costs between 45-51 pounds and was the most expensive tyre tested. It lasted longest but it did not perform as well as the Continental or Dunlop in wet or dry conditions.

Tread carefully

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of fast-fit motoring centres indicated that poor service is offered and customers are often overcharged. Just 10% identified the correct item for replacement and many added non-existent faults to the repair bill. National and Kwik-Fit were the worst for advising unnecessary work to be undertaken, while Rapid Fit and Hi-Q performed the best.

Breakdown services rated

Article Abstract:

A survey conducted on the companies which provide breakdown services is discussed. The results revealed that the 'Pay and reclaim' services work out cheaper and must remember that home and car insurers also offer breakdown policies and must check that new cars include a year's cover in the manufacturer's warranty.
