Video recorders

Article Abstract:

Features to look out for in video recorders are sound quality, sharpness of the picture and twin speeds. Nicam hi-fi stereo can offer qualityin terms of sound, while Super-VHS offers a sharper picture. Super VHS are, however, more expensive machines, and need a modern television using a special socket. They are unlikely to be worth the expense unless you want to use them to edit recordings from a camcorder. Twin-speed recorders are not much more expensive, and provide double play as well as standard play, though sound quality and picture quality tends not to be as good in long play as in standard play.

Video watching

Article Abstract:

Nineteen video recorders, eight with Nicam stereo, were evaluated. The Hitachi VT-M140E was recommended. The best video with Nicam sound was the Panasonic NV-F55B. Programming can be easier on models with VideoPlus, Video Programming by Teletext, and Programme Delivery Control, which is only available on Channel 4. These features help users record programmes on the day they are shown, which is the most usual requirement. VideoPlus records when the user enters the code given in television listings in magazines and newspapers.

Video recorders

Article Abstract:

Fifteen new video recorders were tested and the results of previous tests on models still available were compared with them. Although almost three in every four adults own a video, 1/3 of them had problems operating it. The main problem is the timer, which varies greatly from one machine to another. Timers can be set to record up to eight programmes up to four weeks ahead. Videos can be programmed by remote control, on-screen, by teletext, by programme delivery control or by VideoPlus. Nicam stereo is available.
