Weedkillers: label with care

Article Abstract:

Companies that make weedkillers are misleading consumers by claiming that their products are environmentally safe on the product labels. The National Registration Authority for Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals in Australia is investigating this matter, and states that no weedkiller can be completely non-toxic, environmentally safe, or biodegradable.

Article Abstract:

Eight garden mulchers sold in Australia for $510 to $749 are assessd for their safety features, ease of use and performance. The Rover Maxi Mulcher 9664 ($690) receives the top score, followed by the Viking GE120 ($645) and the Masport Garden Gobbler A29974 ($571). The Chipper Chopper CC3300 and CC4000 are not recommended for safety reasons.

Article Abstract:

Eleven breadmakers sold in Australia were assessed using both a commercial mix and a manufacturer's recipe. All but one made a good loaf of bread, but results varied with recipe, bread mix brand and ingredient quality. The Sanyo Bread Factory Plus SBM-201 ($149) received the top rating.
