What budget changes mean for you

Article Abstract:

The Australian budget has undergone some alterations that will pay for more access to general practitioners (GPs), affordable pharmaceuticals, and home care services. Medicare will compensate GPs more, a change that should encourage physicians to use bulk billing. The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme will allow retirees to spend less on prescriptions and get them free after they have spent $166.40 in one calendar year. There is still no tax rebate for lower income Australians who want to buy private health insurance. Increased access to dental care, also, has not changed for this demographic group.

Saving money on your medicines

Article Abstract:

Australia's Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, the government-subsidized medication plan, has recently raised prices for certain drugs. Consumers can still save money be asking for cheaper or generic brands of drugs, or enrolling in the Safety Net scheme. This plan offers a discount to families or individuals that use many medications.
