FRANCE: PAPER BAGS WITH BUILT IN HANDLES
Article Abstract:
Manufacturer of paper bags, Manuco-Paperbag has re-invented the paper bag, following an investment of FFr 20mn on a machine to make the bags and five years work. The strength of the bag is attributed to the fact that it is produced from the same sheet of paper, making the handles capable of withstanding 50kg, 35kg more than with other paper bags. The bottom of the bag is folded and then stuck to the sides of the bag making it again stronger. Manuco-Paperbag is using a Spanish machine made by Texpack which is capable of producing 10,000 bags per hour. The target market is the retail and clothing trade who will be able to be more innovative with their designs on the bags themselves. In the longer term the company also hopes to penetrate into heavier industrial applications.

FRANCE: STRATEGY IN PACKAGING FOR ANTALIS

The recently created European paper group, Antalis, recently nominated Didier Rebours as the Director of France for its new packaging branch, Antalis Packaging. In a European level, this branch intends to reach EUR 200mn turnover within three years. It aims to contribute packaging stock management services for large business clients, and will specialise in cardboard boxing, and bubble wrap. This division is starting from scratch in France, while six regional warehouses are under construction, in order to be operational by autumn 2001.

FRANCE/GERMANY/SWITZERLAND: EURO P3 FOUNDED
Article Abstract:
The French company Autajon, the German company Theis, and the Swiss company Regia Wassermann have teamed up to create EUR P3, an intercompany partnership under French law, which will specialise in pharmaceutical cardboard cases. The three partners represent an annual production of 1.7bn pharmaceutical cardboard cases, for a global turnover of more than FFr 360mn, including FFr 131mn for Autajon.
