FRANCE: PROGRAPHARM AND TRACEABILITY

Article Abstract:

The Prographarm laboratories specialise in subcontracting the production of pharmaceutical products and they make a turnover of around FFr 100mn. Product traceability is fundamental for the laboratory since it concerns a regulatory requirement in this field in compliance with the Public Health Code. Prographarm has installed a traceability system by batches. A full set of papers makes it possible to follow a batch, with the awareness that a batch may consist of a million tablets packaged in 250,000 blister packs, or 10,000 litres of syrup packaged in 50,000 bottles. Each bottle and each blister pack bear the number of the original batch making it possible to trace the product back to its origin.

BELGIUM/FRANCE: QUICK BETS ON TRACEABILITY

Article Abstract:

Food safety and environmental protection are the two priorities of Quick, the Belgian fast-food chain. Quick has asked its suppliers for lighter transport packaging. It has improved all of its other packaging - mayonnaise packaging, salad bows, orange juice cups, and hamburger containers. The new line of packaging - lighter and/or using totally recyclable materials - was introduced in September 1999. Quick hopes ultimately to use only plastic and cardboard packaging. Quick has equipped two of its logistics centres with a warehouse management software package in order to optimise the traceability of all of its, dry, chilled, and frozen products.
