The dynamics of xenolith assimilation

Article Abstract:

Simulated experiments were conducted to analyze the dynamics of xenolith assimilation. Results showed that the differences in the melt layer thickness greatly influence the positional variations in the melting rate. The experimental measurements also agree well with calculated melting rates. Moreover, a layer of crystal-melt mush at the xenolith's surface was generated by partial melting of non-eutectic compositions and relatively mafic lithologies melt faster than silicic compositions.

Petrology, isotope geochemistry and chemical budgets of oceanic gabbros-seawater interaction in the Equatorial Atlantic

Article Abstract:

An analysis of metagabbros found in the Equatorial Atlantic region is presented, focusing on the isotopic exchanges between rocks and sea-water. The authors discuss five possible major alteration processes that the rocks undergo, focusing on late-magmatic changes (stage I) and low temperature changes (stage V).
