An update based on the 1994 ENSO event

Article Abstract:

West Kalimantan, Indonesia, is seriously threatened by the persistent droughts that have been occurring and which have been found to be linked to the El Nino phenomenon. An analysis of rainfall for the years 1992-1995 backs up this finding. It is therefore imperative for its leaders as well as international agencies to plan and implement appropriate preventive and remedial measures to counteract the economic deprivation that is expected to beset the island's inhabitants as a result of the phenomenon.

Three-dimensional chemistry in the greenhouse

Article Abstract:

High-resolution three-dimensional numerical models of global atmospheric chemistry are needed to accurately determine potential changes in the distribution of chemical constituents in the troposphere and stratosphere. Atmospheric chemical processes influence the lifetimes of most greenhouse gases which affect the ozone and lead to radiative climate changes. The models, however, should be tested and carefully interpreted to ensure the accuracy of climate change predictions.
