Atmospheric exchange of carbon dioxide in a low-wind oligotrophic lake measured by the addition of SF6

Article Abstract:

The CO2 gas transfer coefficient k was directly measured at Mirror Lake, New Hampshire, a softwater oligotrophic lake with a surface area of 15 ha. Wind speed did not appear to affect k at low wind speeds. There was persistent supersaturation in CO2 of the surface water in relation to the atmosphere. Estimates of CO2 gas exchange indicate that between 26 and 50 g C m-2 have been released to the atmosphere per year. The exchange of CO2 with the atmosphere plays a major role in the lake's C economy.

Hydrologic influence on methane and carbon dioxide dynamics at two north-central Minnesota lakes

Article Abstract:

The influence of lake hydrology on carbon dioxide and methane dynamics is discussed, based on research conducted at two lakes in north-central Minnesota, in the Shingobee River watershed. Topics include temperature and dissolved gas concentrations, lake CH4 and CO2 storage, methane oxidation, C gas flux across the air-water interface, and annual carbon inputs and losses.

Rapid and precise determination of dissolved oxygen by spectrophotometry: evaluation of interference from color and turbidity

Article Abstract:

Precise, rapid determination of dissolved oxygen (DO) by spectrophotometry is discussed relative to evaluation of interference from color and turbidity. Corrections for both color and turbidity are proposed and can be easily incorporated into measurement design.
