Article Abstract:

A comment on Gerilyn Soreghan and William Dickinson's study of the periodicity of member lithofacies in shallow-water sequences is given. The comment focuses on tectonic, eustatic and sediment aspects. Soreghan and Dickinson state that periodicity is a clue to changes in water-level. A periodic increase in water-level together with subsidence determines changes in accommodation-space generation. A periodic decrease in water-level combined with sediment deposition determines changes in accommodation-space destruction.

Sea level-climate correlation during the part 1400 yr: comment and reply

Article Abstract:

The 1998 Van de Plassche model for the relative-sea-level rise record curve differs from other research models because it uses the double-core approach. This approach can give inaccurate data because of certain fundamental procedural errors. Marsh stratigraphy can vary strongly over short distances. Thus, combining data from different marsh samples can lead to grave statistical and sampling errors. Core stratigraphy, using this approach, may seem identical.

Article Abstract:

The data presented by Ivan Gill et al in their article 'Corals, paleotemperature records, and the aragonite-calcite transformation' is insufficient to support their contention that isotopic fractionation is induced when sampling coral skeletons by dry drilling with a tungsten carbide dental burr. There was not enough evidence to support the hypothesis that drilling affects the delta-18O and delta-13C of coral skeletons.
