Tectonics of SE China: new insights from the Lushan massif (Jiangxi Province)

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the two lithotectonic units which make up the Lushan massif in the Jiangxi Province of China. The micaschists gneisses and granite intrusions in the units are discussed.

Alpine structural and metamorphic signature of the Sila Piccola Massif nappe stack (Calabria, Italy): insights for the tectonic evolution of the Calabrian Arc

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the use of 40Ar/39Ar geochronology, petrographical and structural techniques to investigate the metamorphic and main structural breaks of the Sila Piccola Massif in Calabria, Italy.

Comment on "Origin of the Chichibu Sea, Japan: Middle Paleozoic to Early Mesozoic Plate Construction in the Northern Margin of the Gondwana Continent." (response to article by S. Otoh, S. Yamakita, and S. Yanai, Tectonics, vol. 9, p. 423, 1990)

Article Abstract:

Otoh et. al. (1990) deny evidence of a Permian-traissic orogeny in southwest Japan. However, their model suffers from the following major flaws: dating of Sanbagawa metamorphism, geological zonation, inclusion of the Yakuno complex and the Ultra-Tanba zone in the Maizuru belt, the origin of Outer belt rocks, and the reef limestone-domination of Outer zone Jurassic sediments. Their model thus ignores current evidence on Permian-early Triassic tectonometamorphism.
