Goldfinder: a knowledge-based system for mineral prospecting

Article Abstract:

The use of expert systems technology is advocated in mineral prospecting in as much as certain aspects geological drilling determinations have automation aspects and by way of example a prototype expert system, Goldfinder, is presented. It was pointed out that the use of computers for symbolic manipulations remains largely untapped by geologists despite the fact that such capabilities can be of considerable assistance.

Deep structure of southern Ireland: anew geological synthesis using BIRPS deep reflection profiling

Article Abstract:

An analysis describing the geological historical structure of southern Ireland is presented. The analysis combines BIRPS deep seismic reflection data with other geological and geophysical data to examine the tectonic character of Ireland's crust. It is shown that the reflector called the 'Variscan Front' only draws a map line across the British Isles but has no consistent tectonic character.
