Discussion on paleostresses associated with thrust sheet emplacement and related folding in the southern central Pyrenees, Huesca, Spain

Article Abstract:

A new paleostress analysis of the mesostructures contained in several thrust sheets in the southern central Pyrenees in Huesca, Spain, contradicted with the results obtained by Martinez-Pena et al. There were distinct differences between the stress stensors found in the hanging walls and footwalls of the thrusts, with the immediate footwalls showing extensions that were parallel to the strike of thrusts. The problem in the previous study lies on the incorrect dataset used to represent the age of the structures. By confining their analysis to pre-orogenic Cretaceous and Paleogene rocks, Martinez-Pena et al. failed to demonstrate proper timing of formation of the structures.

Discussion on the Lower Palaeozoic of Oman and its context in the evolution of a Gondwanan continental margin

Article Abstract:

R.C. Buckley and N.A. Harbury comment on the continental setting for the Lower Haima Group and the Amin Formation in Oman proposed by J.A. Millson, C.G.L. Mercadier, S.E. Livera and J.M. Peters. Buckley and Harbury contend that the basal sandstones should be included in the Upper Haima Group and not correlated with the Lower Haima. In response, Millson et al raise a number of important clarifications concerning the boundary, paleocurrents and provenance of the Lower Haima.
