Distribution of trace elements during breakdown of mantle garnet: an examplefrom Zabargad

Article Abstract:

Unusual amounts of trace elements were shown by ion probe investigations of Al-Di pyroxenites from the Zabargad peridotite of Italy. This characteristic, not exhibited by pyroxenes in spinel websterite, indicates the presence of a precursor or mantle garnet and emphasizes the importance of metamorphic processes in the redistribution of trace elements through mantle upwelling. Thestudy also shows that the Zabargad peridotite had been formed prior to lithospheric rifting and thinning of the area.

Distinct site preferences for heavy and light REE in amphibole and the prediction of (super Amph/L)D(sub REE)

Article Abstract:

Using the elastic-strain theory, researchers discuss how the idea that amphibole structures are partly composed of rare earth elements (REE) unintentionally bias melt partitioning models. Methods of creating accurate predictive models for mineral/melt partitioning are analyzed.

Silicic melts produced by reaction between peridotite and infiltrating basaltic melts: ion probe data on glasses and minerals in veined xenoliths from La Palma, Canary Islands

Article Abstract:

The authors discuss the changes within veined xenoliths, focusing on basaltic melt infiltration, reaction and crystallization processes. Topics include narrowing of alkali basaltic glass veins, and changes in the composition of trace elements.
