Ground-water, large-lake interactions in Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron: a geochemical and isotopic approach

Article Abstract:

The interaction between large lakes and ground water in Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron, in the Great Lakes region was studied using a geochemical and isotopic approach. Data shows that the sediments from the Saginaw lowland area and the Saginaw Bay have similar vertical and horizontal patterns in their pore-water chemistry compared to patterns in the regional ground-water chemistry. The pore-water profiles from Saginaw lowland area also suggests a mixture of diffusion and advection while those from the Saginaw Bay were produced primarily by diffusion in a shorter period.

Paleoclimatology and provenance of the glaciogenic Gowganda Formation (Paleoproterozoic), Ontario, Canada: a chemostratigraphic approach

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the provenance and paleoclimatogy of the glaciogenic Gowganda Formation in Ontario, Canada. Analyses, using a chemostratigraphic approach, of the samples gathered suggests a wider provenance as indicated by glacial deposits. Other findings include the presence of a significant mount of supracrustal material in the Gowganda Formation, a marine setting, and that probable exaggeration of the proportions of soft supracrustal materials that may actually have been crushed during glacial transportation.
