High-pressure, high-temperature rocks from the base of thick continental crust: geology and age constraints from the Manicouagan Imbricate Zone, eastern Grenville Province

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on rocks from the base of thick continental crust of the Manicouagan Imbricate Zone (MIZ) located in the eastern Grenville Province. Results showed that the MIZ and the low-pressure segment of the region have a common pre- and early-Grenvillian history down to a least 1.17 Ga, but have different metamorphic histories during the subsequent 1.1 to 1.0 Ga Grenvillian event. The MIZ was metamorphosed during high-pressure and high-temperature conditions suggesting burial to depths of the order of 50 km and a high-temperature regime.

Origin and tectonic significance of the Aldrich Mountains serpentinite matrix melange, northeastern Oregon

Article Abstract:

Metamorphic, igneous, and sedimentary blocks make up the serpentinite melangeof the Aldrich Mountains in Oregon. Matrix foliation dips steeply, trends northeast to southwest, and is parallel to long dimesnsions of blocks. Amphibolite tectonites formed at 550-780 degrees centigrade and 3-5 kbar. Post metamorphic brittle deformation occured in most blocks prior to matrix immersion. The melange formed from a sediment-starved forearc into which serpentinite was protruded after tectonic activity sometime between the Early Permian and Late Jurassic.

The Saint-Daniel melange: evolution of an accretionary complex in the Dunnage terrane of the Quebec Appalachians

Article Abstract:

The Saint-Daniel melange (SDM) forms part of the demarcation between rocks of oceanic and continental origins in the northern Appalachians known as the Baie Verte-Brompton line. SDM consists of a variety of lithologies ranging from sedimentary sequences to igneous and metamorphic rocks which display different stages of formation. The structural complex of SDM is well ordered following a stratigraphic sequence. SDM is viewed as an accretionary complex remnant due to its position, lithology and structure.
