Jerome Namias: 1911-1997

Article Abstract:

The climate community lost a revered member and an inspirational figure with the demise of Jerome Namias, who enjoyed a 60-year career in extended forecasting operations and research. Namias will be well-remembered for his work on the effect of the sea surface, soil moisture and snow cover on the atmosphere's behavior and on various aspects of short-period climate variations and their predictability, which he conducted at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Namias was 86 years old at the time of his death.
