Mesoscale and regional kinematics of the northwestern Yalakom fault system: major Paleogene dextral faulting in British Columbia, Canada

Article Abstract:

Kinematic and paleostress analysis of mesofaults and map-scale structures provided insight on dextral and sinistral oblique slip deformations in the northwestern Yalakom fault system in southwestern British Columbia. This analysis proved versatile in interpreting major latitudinal translation, rotation about vertical axes and the relative timing of folding undergone by the paleomagnetic site.

Article Abstract:

The authors agree with McGroder, that any major vertical displacements affect their cross sections in the reconstruction of the southern Coast Belt, but that the main aim was to assess the orogen after restoring strike-slip displacements. McGroder's comments do not challenge the basic conclusions as the emphasis is on restoring the youngest major faults of a complex orogen.

Analogue modeling of faulting pattern, ductile deformation, and vertical motion in strike-slip fault zones

Article Abstract:

Analog modeling was employed in examining the relationship between strike-slip fault ductile deformation, faulting and vertical displacement. A two-layer, small-scale lithosphere model was used in the experiment. The geometrical relationships between folds, elongated domes and faults to the stress axes was explained through a new structural pattern during strike-slip shear.
