Bacterioplankton dynamics in northern San Francisco Bay: role of particle association and seasonal freshwater flow

Article Abstract:

Bacterioplankton abundance and metabolic characteristics were studied in northern San Francisco Bay, California, at 3 sites in the spring and summer of 1996. The salinity of the sites spanned a gradient from marine in the Central Bay to freshwater at the Sacramento River. Aminopeptidase activity was positively correlated with increasing salinity.

Luminescent response of the red tide dinoflagellate Lingulodinium polyedrum to laminar and turbulent flow

Article Abstract:

The red tide dinoflagellate Lingulodinium polyedrum and its luminescent response to turbulent and laminar pipe flow are discussed. At similar values of wall shear stress, the hydrodynamic stimulations responses for both laminar and turbulent flows were similar.
