Neodymium isotopic evidence for the tectonic assembly of late Archean crust in the Slave Province, northwest Canada

Article Abstract:

The presence of newly formed crust introduced from mantle sources and the occurrence of crustal melting and intrusion characterized the tectonic formation of the late Archean crust in the Slave Province, Canada. Supracrustal and granitoid rock samples were studied using samarium-neodymium isotopic analysis. The results showed that the samples obtained from the central and eastern regions contained higher Nd concentrations than those from the west. This indicated that the western magma samples had been contaminated by older extrusions which confirmed the mid to early Archean crustal exposure of the western region.

Origin of Archean lamprophyre dykes, Superior Province, Canada: rare earth element and Nd-Sr isotopic evidence

Article Abstract:

The lamprophyre dykes and the gabbro-pyroxenite formations found in Superior Province, Canada, were subjected to chemical and isotopic analyses. The rock suites were formed simultaneously with high-Mg diorite-monzodiorite-granodiorite sanukitoid suites during the Archean Period. Furthermore, the results indicated that the rock suites originated from a large-ion-lithophile element-bearing subcontinental lithospheric mantle source exhibiting diverse elemental and isotopic enrichments.

An assessment of the utility of staurolite in U-Pb dating of metamorphism

Article Abstract:

The potential of using the U-Pb system to determine the beginning of staurolite growth in metapelitic rocks is examined. Staurolite is a common rock-forming metamorphic mineral, often preserving the most radiogenic Pb isotopic composition. It has been shown to be a useful chronometer in studies. U-Pb analyses for staurolites from nine metapelites from late Archean to Paleozoic are presented, including major and trace element, synchrotron X-ray florescence and fission track analyses.
