Numerical modeling of trishear fault propagation folding

Article Abstract:

A numerical model of trishear fault propagation folding was examined by considering fault propagation from a flat decollement, variation of the ratios of propagation rate and fault slip rate, varying the trishear apex angle and strain markers. The model was then combined with other models of erosion, transport and sedimentation to study the geometry of the growth strata produced by the model. A continuous rotation of the forelimb was exhibited and cumulative wedges were formed. Overturned pregrowth and growth strata were also predicted with high total slip on a structure.

A deep seismic reflection profile across the extinct Mid-Labrador sea spreading center

Article Abstract:

The influence of mechanical extension on seafloor spreading is more than previously presumed. A deep multichannel seismic reflection line shot along a flow line across the Labrador sea indicates that the spreading rates are low, giving an opportunity to study the relationship between the spreading rates and the crustal structure. The crusts formed at a spreading rate of about 10 mm per year have a smooth even base with minor faulting, and when the spreading rates are around 3 mm per year, extreme normal faulting with thin crusts is observed.

Identification of multiple generations of crosscutting "domino-style" faults: insights from seismic modeling

Article Abstract:

Geologic aspects of the crosscutting "domino" fault model are presented. Geometric and seismic characteristics that are appropriate in determining the applicability of the crosscutting "domino" fault model to any specific area are enumerated. Even with the ambiguity of individual elements associated with the model, evaluationof other upper crustal attributes constrains the applicability of the model to a particular area.
