On the secular variations in the composition of Phanerozoic marine potash evaporites: comment and reply

Article Abstract:

The model proposed by H.D. Holland and coworkers on the changes in sea-water composition based on the mixing of hydrothermal brine from mid-ocean-ridges and river water contains a number of contentious issues. Among these issues are the use of differences in dolomitization to explain variation in magnesium sulphate levels in brine and the parameters that influence the precipitation of calcite and aragonite. The response of Holland and coworkers to these contentions is presented.

Vertical axis rotations in the Mojave: evidence from the independence dike swarm: comment and reply

Article Abstract:

The basis of the interpretation of vertical axis rotations in the Mojave Desert was the assumption that the dikes were regionally parallel to start with. The direction of the dikes exhibits deviation from the expected direction based on the rotational model presented, thereby casting doubts on the validity of the model. Paleomagnetic investigations are needed. The reply of the investigators who put forth the rotational model is presented.

No statistical support for sudden (or gradual) extinction of dINNsaurs: comment and reply

Article Abstract:

The contention on dINNsaur diversity and extinction is refuted on three main points. Firstly, it is claimed that the measures of familial diversity were inaccurate. Secondly, the relationship between familial diversity and changes in generic diversity is questioned. Lastly, it is believed that the statistical procedures applied for such a study were inaccurate.
