Organic maturation, thermal history and hydrocarbon generation in the Orcadian Basin, Scotland

Article Abstract:

Research describing the geological foundations supporting the formation of the Orcadian Basin in Scotland is presented. The Devonian formation is composed of thick organic-rich lacustrine sediments of interest which function as hydrocarbon source rocks. Organic maturation in the basin covers an extensive range. The presence of high geothermal gradients and the contact metamorphic effects of the period's plutons led to early maturation in the basin.

Two decades of research on the Proterozoic-Phanerozoic transition: 1972-1991

Article Abstract:

An analysis describing research on the Proterozoic-Phanerozoic transition is presented. The process evolved along a level between the Precambrian and Cambrian periods and involved biological, chemical and physical life variables. The stratigraphical level is considered to be the Proterozoic Eonothem-Phanerozoic Eonothem Boundary. The fundamental value of the period transition led to extensive multi-subject research.

Evidence for an early Proterozoic crustal province in the North Atlantic region

Article Abstract:

An analysis describing data concerning crustal formation in the North Atlantic Region is presented. The analysis shows that the Ketilidian belt of Greenland, the Rockall bank and the Islay-Inishtrahull block of the British Isles present the possibility of a single early Proterozoic crustal formation in the Region. The three sub-provinces also exhibit similar metamorphic development.
