Origin of chromosomes in response to mutation pressure

Article Abstract:

The mechanisms of chromosome replication and segregation when asexual reproduction takes place through binary fission and when protocells face a high rate of destructive mutations are believed to be another short-term advantage for protocells in having a chromosome. With binary fission, one of two daughter cells are assured of receiving a mutation-free gene while enabling organisms to be potentially immortal. The stochastic corrector model is proposed to resolve the issue of mutation loads of gene segregation and chromosome segregation.
