Permian paleomagnetism of the northern Tien Shan and its tectonic implications

Article Abstract:

Tien Shan tectonism is examined via structural and paleomagnetic analysis of Permian sedimentary and igneous rocks. Prefolding components are isolated and compared with European reference data. The inclination and declination characteristics obtained are similar to those of the reference. Counterclockwise rotation for southern samples are evident, pre-dating Alpine deformation but post-dating Permian folding. The results suggest Permian association of these blocks with the European plate.

Paleomagnetism and geochronology of the Late Cretaceous-Paleogene island arc complex of the Kronotsky Peninsula, Kamchatka, Russia: Kinematic implications

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the movement of the Kronotsky island with the continental plate during the Late Cretaceous and with the Pacific plate in the Paleocene. The remnants of ancient island arcs are discussed.

Tectonic implications of exposure of lower continental crust beneath the Iberia Abyssal Plain, northeast Atlantic Ocean: geophysical evidence

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the tectonic process which resulted in the exhumation of the rocks of a basement beneath the southern Iberia Abyssal Plain. Ocean Drilling Program results from this area are discussed.
