Robert E. Lynott: 1914-1998

Article Abstract:

Meteorologist and popular television forecaster Robert E. Lynott died on Jun 10, 1998, at the age of 83. His career in the field of meteorology began after he graduated from the University of Chicago in 1949 with a degree in meteorology. He was stationed at Portland, OR, when he joined the National Weather Service. He was the first meteorologist of KOIN TV in Portland, OR, when he joined its staff in 1953. Lynott was also an active mountaineer and his second wedding ceremony was held at the top of Mt. Hood.

Morton H. Bailey: 1916-1998

Article Abstract:

Meteorologist Morton Bailey died on Apr 1, 1998, at the age of 81. He served for a while as a research meteorologist at the National Climatic Center. He was also the leading forecaster at the National Weather Service. His stints in Africa included his work for the South African Weather Bureau for 18 months in Pretoria, South Africa, and as chief meteorologist of climatology in Lusaka, Zambia.

Robert C. Miller: 1920-1998

Article Abstract:

Meteorologist Robert C. Miller died on Sep 13, 1998, in Laurel, MD, at the age of 78. His forecasting career began with work for Dutch KLM, Royal Air Force during World War II. After the war, he stayed as an army weather officer in Long Beach, CA. Miller and his partner, the late Ernest J. Fawbush, made the first official tornado forecast on Mar 25, 1948.
