The Precambrian-Cambrian boundary: seawater chemistry, ocean circulation and nutrient supply in metazoan evolution, extinction and biomineralization

Article Abstract:

An analysis describing variations in the global environment during the Precambrian-Cambrian transition is presented. The analysis also considers the impact of such variation on metazoan evolution and biomineralization. It is shown that Mg/Ca ratio was reduced and aCO2 of seawater increased for the transition period. Variations in global climate and increased plate tectonic activity changed ocean circulation and nutrient levels, global temperatures and shallow sea formations.

Phosphogenesis around the Proterozoic-Phanerozoic transition

Article Abstract:

An analysis describing the development of phosphogenic events around the Proterozoic-Phanerozoic transition is presented. Evidence of phosphogenesis is based on the abundance of Proterozoic and Cambrian phosphate deposits in Asia, Australia and some other parts of the world. It is shown that the theory of a phosphogenesis-glaciation link is not valid. However, period peaks found a marked increase in phosphate content of shallow seas.
