Structural analysis of metasedimentary enclaves: implications for tectonic evolution and granite petrogenesis in the southern Lachlan Fold Belt, Australia: comment and reply

Article Abstract:

Theories on the nature of the thickened oceanic crust of the lower Lachlan crust are criticized due to the supposed faulty use of basic observation techniques and research methodologies. It is believed that the mid-crust is not uniform and supports the existence of older crust beneath the Lachlan Fold Belt. The surface geology of the Melbourne zone lack polydeformed rocks which suggest the existence of a vertically non-uniform crust.

Autopsy on a dead spreading center: the Phoenix Ridge, Drake Passage, Antarctica

Article Abstract:

An extinct spreading center in Antarctica has been mapped for the first time with multibeam swath bathymetry. Simultaneous extinction of 3 remaining segments suggests the cause was change in the plate boundary forces caused by an observed ridge-trench collision.

Using high-resolution multibeam bathymetry to identify seafloor surface rupture along the Palos Verdes fault complex in offshore southern California

Article Abstract:

The authors investigate several linear ruptures offshore of the Palos Verdes Peninsula in southern California. They offer the extent of the newly discovered Avalon Knoll fault and estimate likely magnitudes for events along it.
