Tephroite-hausmannite-galaxite from a granulite-facies manganese rocks of the United Arab Emirates

Article Abstract:

An assemblage of manganese-rich tephroite-hausmannite-galaxite present in the Khawr Fakkan massif, United Arab Emirates, was formed from the breaking down of Fe-poor braunite + hausmannite. These metamorphic rocks are stable under granulite-facies conditions at an oxygen fugacity between 10 to the -9th power to the -10th power. The galaxite contains a 35% solid solution of hausmannite. Tephroite has a restricted paragenesis and is associated with Fe-Mn rich ores and metamorphosed Mn-rich sediments.

K-Ar ages of the metamorphic sole of the Semail Ophiolite: implications for ophiolite cooling history

Article Abstract:

Potassium-argon dating of micas and hornblendes from the base of the Semail Ophiolite in the Arabian border was conducted and compared with earlier studies. The hornblendes, dated between 93 and 102 Ma, were interpreted as cooling stages following the high-grade metamorphism of the area. Micas from the upper amphibolite and granulite facies were formed around 85 to 90 Ma and date the subsequent greenschist facies formation.

The petrogenesis of leucogranitic dykes intruding the northern Semail ophiolite, Unitee Arab Emirates: field relationships, geochemistry and Sr/Nd isotope systematics

Article Abstract:

An analysis of granitic intrusions suggests that the intrusions originated from oceanic trench fill sediments. Research suggests that the granitoids were created due to minimum melts, and the Nd and Sr isotopes indicate that hybrid granitic melts were a product of pre-magmatic blending of differing subduction zone sources.
