The tectonostratigraphy and structure of the eastern Nepal Himalaya

Article Abstract:

The section of the eastern Nepal Himalaya south of the Tibetan Plateau is divided into the Higher Himalayan thrust sheet, the Lesser Himalayan thrust sheet, and the Sub-Himalayan imbricate zone. Analysis of a cross-section of these sheets indicates some 210 to 280 km of horizontal, north-south shortening of this orogenic wedge. The results suggest an overall 'piggyback' thrusting sequence, with a transfer of movement from the Main Central Thrust to the Main Detachment Fault and the Main Boundary Thrust.

Late Cenozoic tectonics of the Kepingtage thrust zone: Interactions of the Tien Shan and Tarim Basin, northwest China

Article Abstract:

The India-Asia collision system is the largest active collisional orogeny and is useful in understanding orogenic processes. The Kepingtage thrust zone of northwest China is an actively deforming part of the India-Asia collision system and its structures differs from areas along strike to the east and west. The hypothesis that it relates to thickness variations of Mesozoic-Cenzoic sedimentary succession within the Tarim Basin is considered.

Thrust tectonics of the Binalood Region, NE Iran

Article Abstract:

The Binalood region, an eastern segment of the Alborz Mountains in northeast Iran, is characterized by thin-skinned tectonics due to NE-SW thrust faulting. An antiformal stack of single thrust sheets or duplexes resulted from ductile to brittle conditions during contraction, which began with the Triassic-Jurassic collision of the Turan plate and the Iranian microcontinent. Late Cretaceous contraction recurred and has persisted since then.
