Homegrown values and hypothetical surveys: is the dichotomous choice approach incentive-compatible?

Article Abstract:

Dichotomous choice (DC) methods has been commonly applied to the contingent-valuation method. It is primarily based on the assumption that it produces incentive-compatible results. Three laboratory experiments have been designed to test the hypothesis that the hypothetical DC method will yield the same responses as the real DC method. A set of hypothetical and real DC questionnaires were prepared.
