AG publishing veteran offers thirty years of insight

Article Abstract:

A 20-year veteran in the farm periodical publishing business notes that the fortunes of this industry are closely tied to those of the agricultural sector. The exponential growth of the farm equipment and chemicals markets and the prosperity of farms in the 1970s enabled farm periodicals to boost advertising revenues year by year. Most farm magazines saw their advertising revenues drastically slashed as farms and agribusinesses closed by the hundreds during the 1980s, but the situation eased during the 1990s. The emergence of Internet-based firms in the 1990s and the technology revolution within the agricultural business augurs well for the future prospects of farm periodical publishers.
