Article Abstract:

Adult soft drinks sales have grown in value by 344% since 1992 to an estimated total of 240 million pounds sterling in 1997. Adult soft drinks, comprising herbal drinks, fruit drinks and flavored waters, have been purchased by 88% of 15-24 year-olds. Diet fruit drinks are particularly popular with young women. Adults like to consume soft drinks as an alternative to alcohol.

The UK market for adult soft drinks can be divided into flavoured waters, fruit drinks and herbal drinks. Flavoured water is estimated to have accounted for 44% of the market in volume terms and 33% in value terms in 1999.
