Affirmative action in higher education

Article Abstract:

A study based on data from the National Longitudinal Study of the High School Class of 1972 shows how college education affects the early labor-market earnings of African American and white males. African American males who maintain a consistent performance in selective colleges enjoy greater earnings increases than white males. Attending a selective college does little good for an African American student if their performance is modest.
