Alcoholic soft drinks

Article Abstract:

Sales of alcoholic soft drinks in the UK grew from 90 million pounds sterling in 1995 to 265 million pounds sterling in 1996, with sales expected to rise by about 42% by value in 1997. Bass launched the first product in the UK, Hooper's Hooch, in Summer 1995, with this brand accounting for more than 66% of all sales in 1996 by value. The brands which have an individual identity and which are most promoted will probably remain in the market. The market could be impacted by claims that the sweetened products encourage underage drinking, although the industry is following guidelines to counteract this problem.

RTD alcoholic drinks

Article Abstract:

Women and young people under the ages of 25 years are key markets for ready to drink (RTD) alcoholic drinks. Sales of premium packaged drinks have grown rapidly because of heavy investment in advertising concepts and brands. These are popular with younger drinkers in clubs and pubs. The pre-mixed sector has also grown and there is scope for further growth, although only well known brands are selling well. Value growth for RTD drinks is expected to be 60% by the year 2002, most of which is from the premium packaged sector. This represents real annual growth of 10%.

Alcoholic carbonates

Article Abstract:

The UK alcoholic carbonated drinks market is predicted to fall in value from 285 million pounds sterling in 1999 to 138 million pound sterling by 2003. The market has suffered from being too narrow in its target audience, with sales occurring mainly in the 17 - 24 year age group. The future of carbonated alcoholic drinks will depend on a wider target audience and extensions to existing ranges, such as low calorie options.
