Ambient ready meals

Article Abstract:

The ambient ready meals market is estimated to have fallen to 106 million pounds sterling in 1995, against 110 million pounds sterling in 1994. The market is dominated by instant hot snacks with a 79% value share, while sales of ready to eat products fell by 50% between 1990 and 1994. The development of the market has been influenced by certain factors, including changing eating habits and an increasing number of women going out to work. The main players in the market are CPC International's Golden Wonder and Unilever's Vesta brand. It is expected that the market will be worth 107.9 million pounds sterling by 2000.

Meat substitutes

Article Abstract:

The meat substitute market is likely to grow if food scares continue and people are concerned about low fat foods. Fears about eating meat have resulted in people who are not vegetarian trying meat substitutes such as textured vegetable protein (TVP), tofu and Quorn. TVP has 67% of market sales but Quorn sales are increasing because it is low in fat and can be used in a variety of ways. Other relevant factors which affect the meat substitute market include the increasing number of convenience foods which use it, more working women and more freezers and microwaves in the home.
