Issues concerning the value of floating or fixed currency exchange rates in Arab countries are discussed. Fixed exchange rates linked to the US dollar are favoured by the majority of Arab nations.

Arab bond markets: moving beyond the early stages of development

Article Abstract:

Issues relating to the bond markets in the Arab region are discussed. Still in their first stages of development, increased flexibility and depth will be required for borrowing long-term capital at a fixed interest rate. Bond market development will generate finances for both public and private initiatives.

Arab stock markets: country-by-country analysis and review

Article Abstract:

Arab stock markets appear to be cheaper in terms of valuation compared to the US and European stock exchanges despite highly conservative economic growth prospects and low international investor interest in emerging stock market securities. More than half of the shares in the region's stock exchanges are trading at below book value. Such valuations appear extremely enticing for long-term investors even when allowing for differences in accounting practices.
