Are institutional rigidities at the root of European unemployment?

Article Abstract:

Employment in Netherlands expanded more than in the US while the Dutch unemployment rate fell sharply in the 1990's. Reference is made to the US institutions and facts in order to illustrate the magnitude of the Dutch-German differences, as the US has become the benchmark case for European policy proposals.

Outsourcing and the provision of welfare-related services to unemployed youth in New Zealand

Article Abstract:

An interview data is drawn to explore the impact of 'outsourcing' on tutors who work with young, unemployed people, concentrating on New Zealand's welfare-to-work policy. The data also shows that outsourcing achieves control by creating uncertainty over the tutors' own employment situation.
