Changes in the consumer price index in 2004

Article Abstract:

The geometric mean formula is utilized for calculating the elementary indexes for January 2004 information instead of the arithmetic mean formula to assess the consumer price index for urban consumers and for waged and clerical workers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is in the process of assessing the accuracy of the formula utilized in the computation of the basic item indexes annually and it might change the formula for creating these indexes.
