Clustered volatility in multiagent dynamics

Article Abstract:

A study shows that a phenomenon called clustered volatility arises in multiagent systems when agents resort to switching of strategies in an effort to achieve some of the limited resources available in the system. Clustered volatility is characterized by a sudden burst of activity followed by relaxation to a fixed point. The sudden appearance of activity is believed to be related to an effective random walk brought about by overall stability.
