Article Abstract:
Sulptured brickwork is being revitalised in the 90s. Care is needed in the brick and mortar selection. Perforations in the brick will cause voids and inconsistent through colours may be undesirable. An assessment of the sculpture's exposure to weathering is important and more durable bricks may be needed. Sculpture produced by modelling is complicated but provides better relief. After the artist has formed the shapes which are numbered, the sculpture is dismantled for drying and firing and reassembled on site. Each unit must be oversized to allow for shrinkage.
