Do self-fulfilling expectations of currency devaluation improve the balance of payments

Article Abstract:

The balanceof payment status in the existence of self-fulfilling expectations of the devaluation of currency is presented. The research makes use of a theoretical model modified to fixed exchange rates. The study reveals that prior to fulfilled currency devaluation, the status of balance of payments, whether it is experiencing a surplus or a deficit depends mainly on capital mobility.

Article Abstract:

The rational expectations hypothesis is employed to test rational expectations in agricultural commodities. Individual responses from survey data covering vegetable producers in Florida, Texas and Michigan are used to directly test the hypothesis. Growers' forecasts are found to be inefficient, biased and inconsistent with the rational expectations hypothesis.
