Domestic heating

Article Abstract:

Sales of domestic heating boilers, in the UK, are expected to rise from a value of 528 million pounds sterling in 1998, to 599 million pounds sterling in 2003, at 1998 prices. Almost 21 million pounds sterling was spent on advertising electricity and gas in 1997, with gas accounting for around 72% of the expenditure. The most popular form of domestic central heating, in the UK, was gas which accounted for the heating supply in 55.5% of households in 1998. Other types of central heating include electricity, oil and solid fuel.

Article Abstract:

The recession had a negative impact on the UK market for central heating systems. However, the overall market for domestic heating products rose by 14% in the period 1990-1994, reaching 860 million pounds sterling. The main sector of the market is boilers, where sales were 435 million pounds sterling in 1994, while sales of gas and electric space heaters were 203 million pounds sterling. The market is expected to expand as house building increases.

The UK market for fires and fireplaces amounted to 265 million pounds sterling in 1996, up 46% from 1992. The fires and fireplaces market is large and includes the gas natural fires sector, valued at 175 million pounds sterling in 1996, and the decorative electric fire sector, worth 40 million pounds sterling. It is expected that the market will rise by 23% in real terms between 1997 and 2001.
