Domestic stabilisation of export crop prices: Philippine copra and Malaysian rubber

Article Abstract:

A comparative analysis is conducted on the effects of alternative policy regimes on the domestic prices, producer revenue and welfare for Philippine copra and Malaysian rubber exports. Findings show that the effects of price stabilization may vary depending on the nature of other adopted state policies. Thus, the idea of evaluating domestic price stabilization programs apart from existing government intervention schemes is seriously put into question.

Preemption, Divestiture, and Forward Contracting in a Market Dominated by a Single Firm

Article Abstract:

The use of preemptive acquisition to control market entry is examined. Profitable preemption found when a single entrant occurs does not expand when mulitple entrants exist. Preemption is found to be welfare reducing. The practice of divestiture may decrease efficiency losses. Long-term forward contracts by the dominant firm deters market entry.

A Comparison of Futures and Forward Prices

Article Abstract:

A variety of pricing models are used to compare the futures and forward prices of two metals. A significant variation is observed, possibly due to incomplete models. Measurement errors contribute to failure in describing price differences. A distinction between futures and forward prices must be maintained.
