Economists' perceptions versus managers' decisions: An experiment in transaction-cost analysis

Article Abstract:

Question is put forth regarding the consistency of the perceptions of professional economists on transaction costs with make-or-buy decisions made within firms. Little consistency is evident between actual outsourcing patterns and the predictions of the transactions cost model derived from a panel of economists and evidence of a systematic pattern to the differences suggests that a competence or resource-based approach may be relevant to understanding firm outsourcing.

On the opportunism-independent theory of the firm

Article Abstract:

A study on the opportunism-independent theory of firm is presented. Direction of the firm determined from its contracts helps in identifying the boundaries that the firm is likely to adhere to without appealing to opportunism or moral hazard. The theory is useful for transaction-cost analysis and assessing the resource-based perspective of the firm.
