Egypt amends company law to provide expedited approval procedure for incorporation

Article Abstract:

Egypt's amendment to the seminal Companies Law No. 159 of 1981, Law No.3 of 1998 has significantly reduced the bureaucratic mess involved in the business incorporation process. In effect, Law No. 3 shifts the burden of authentication to the government, with the business given the task of submitting the requisite documents to the Commercial Register. A ten-day period is prescribed for the investigation process, after which the business is automatically registered in its incorporation requests.

Egypt has come up with a 23-year plan for the development of the Sinai Peninsula. The project is expected to cost about $23 billion, the bulk of which will be financed by private investors. Sinai has been chosen due to the overdevelopment of the Nile Delta area as well as for its untapped agriculture and mineral resources. Tourism projects for Sinai are also in the works such as hotel constructions and airport improvements.
