Egypt launches giant canal project...

Article Abstract:

President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt has launched another monumental project with the construction of a colossal canal that will run along the extent of Dakhla up to the Western Desert. El Sheikh Zaid Canal, as what the project will be called, is designed to take Egypt into the 21st century by providing irrigation of 210,000 acres of desert land. However, an issue exists regarding whether Egypt can still get water as it does at the present moment in 1997. Egypt is sharing the Nile River with eight other countries, such as Sudan and Ethiopia, which are planning their own irrigation projects.

Egypt's market for notebook computers growing 20% a year

Article Abstract:

Egypt's market for computers and related products is growing at 20% to 30% per year, though the notebook computer market was only $2.2 million in 1994, accounting for 25% of overall computer sales. Notebook computers are all imported pre-assembled, typically cost from $3,000 to $15,000, and feature a 486 microprocessor with a clock speed of 33-100 MHz. They are considered luxury items, and most who can afford them do not know computers well. They are rarely replaced, so quality is more important than price.
