Exploring female entrepreneurship in rural Vermont and its implications for rural America

Article Abstract:

Researchers are conducting several studies in Vermont to study aspects of female entrepreneurship among rural residents. The exploratory study is meant to ultimately design programs which will encourage rural Vermont women to engage in their own businesses. The focus-group discussions which constituted the exploratory portion of the research showed many of the women entrepreneurs getting into business due to the need for economic self-sufficiency and a sense of personal satisfaction, and that the success of the enterprise depends on the support provided by the community.
