Extinction of the human race: doom-mongering or reality?

Article Abstract:

An assimilation function for the acidification problem is incorporated into a growth model for evaluating the physical viability of sustainable development policies and the likelihood of a breakdown in the earth's life-support ecological system. Specifically, it is shown that extinction may be optimal under the hypothesis of full information. In cases where extinction is not optimal, however, the government has the option to impose a Pigouvian tax and an overendowment tax to internalize the externality.

On trade and growth

Article Abstract:

Previous studies that attempt to prove the relationship between exports and economic growth remain inconclusive due to a number of factors. Most studies use different data sources and definitions of aggregate exports. Linking export growth to GDP also remains difficult given that exports are not a homogenous category. Raw materials and finished goods, for instance, have different effects on GDP as do goods originating from domestic plants and export-processing zones.
