France 1995: the backward march of labour halted

Article Abstract:

The labor strike wave that hit France in 1995 is very similar to the labor unrest experienced by the country during the post-World War II era. This similarity suggests that the French government needs to ensure the workers' rights to social security and pensions by heeding the collective demands of the labor sector. It should also keep in mind that the labor movement has a strong political base and plays a crucial role in the growth of the French economy.

The birth of Socialist Labour

Article Abstract:

The Socialist Labor Party was founded in May 4, 1996, by trade union activists and other labor campaigners who wanted to form an organization that will represent the two main classes in a capitalist society, namely, the bourgeois class and the working class. The launching of this organization is a significant step toward 'refoundation' since it comes from the most militant section of UK's trade and lobar movement.

South Africa: state, labour, and the politics of reconstruction

Article Abstract:

The South African government's Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) and the Interim Constitution have advocated the concept of corporatism wherein restrictions impede the free movement of labor. The fiscal and monetary policies reveal the conditions imposed by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. In addition, the constitution does not provide enough protection for workers during strikes.
